You’ve probably have heard about omega-3 and that it’s an essential fatty acid, but do you know why it’s important and why it’s “essential”? Omega-3 fatty acid is an unsaturated fatty acid primarily found in fish oils. Omega-3 cannot be produced by the body; hence it is considered an essential fatty acid that we must get through our diets. You can find omega-3 in foods such as fatty fish (salmon, cod liver, herring, oysters, mackerel, sardines), nuts/seeds, shellfish, and eggs. However, many people do not eat enough omega-3 to maintain a healthy level – 90% of the people in a recent study were found to be deficient in this essential fatty acid. Said another way, only 10% of those studied had adequate levels!
So that’s where an omega-3 supplement comes in … but what exactly does it do and how does omega-3 help us? Omega-3 is a powerful anti-inflammatory that may be helpful for people with chronic health problems. Here are just a handful of the benefits of omega-3:
Omega-3 Dosage Recommendations
We find that most people benefit from about 3,000 mg of omega-3 daily (one capsule with each meal is a good start). Some individuals may benefit from supplementing with more. Omega-3 Extra Strength allows for a higher dosage in each capsule so you can take fewer capsules and receive the same benefit. We also sell Omega-3 Extra Strength in liquid form, which is ideal for those who have difficulty swallowing.
A Note on Supplement Quality: At NutriKey we only carry pharmaceutical-grade supplements that meet a robust list of standards and are third-party tested (more on that here if you’re interested). They are well absorbed and free of contaminants, fillers, and additives.
